About Us:

Monelison Middle School is the larger of two middle schools in Amherst County, Virginia, that feed Amherst County High School. While it is situated outside the Lynchburg city limits, the student population is a mix of urban and rural. The school, which has been fully accredited for the last eleven years, strives to retain the exurban student population with its academic rigor and positive climate.

Monelison Middle School is the social and geographic center of the community. Because of its location on the southern end of the county one block over from the 29 South business highway, the facility is used for academic, civic, and sporting purposes. In the past, Monelison Middle has served as a shelter in the aftermath of the April 2018 tornado that devastated the community of Elon. The school is also regularly used as a polling place for elections. The school is adjacent to the Dixie Youth Sports Complex which attracts a steady flow of traffic through the campus. The convenient location of the school is attractive to parents who work on the southern end of the county or in the City of Lynchburg.

Our school features a robust learning environment, full of many opportunities for our students, including a Lego Robotics team, a performance choir, band program, ample athletics opportunities, and a "TAG" program.
